The IAEA reported that the Zapadnaya NPP is experiencing increasing difficulties in providing water supply for the plant’s 6 power units.

This was stated by the agency’s CEO Rafael Grossi.

Experts at the Zaporizhzhia NPP say that there are growing difficulties in ensuring a reliable water supply for the 6 reactors that are in a state of cold shutdown. Their safety systems, especially in hot weather conditions, when high evaporation intensity requires constant access to water.

“The group received technical information on the distribution of water throughout the site, including information on the supply of water to nuclear safety and support systems,” the agency said.

In recent weeks, IAEA employees at the ZNPP have been monitoring the condition of the cooling systems.

It is noted that the ZNPP reactors have been in a cold shutdown state since last year, but they still need water for safety systems, reactor cores, and spent fuel aging pools.

Earlier , a fire hazard was recorded at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP – this time in the cargo port area near the power units . Dry reeds were burning at the site of the destroyed Kakhovka reservoir.

We would like to add that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed deep concern over the latest IAEA data , which once again confirm Russia’s cynical and irresponsible use of the Zaporizhzhia NPP as a military facility. The department emphasized that the station has effectively become a “nuclear shield” to cover the shelling of Ukrainian civilian infrastructure.
