US President Donald Trump said he is prioritizing diplomacy with Russia and is not currently seeking new sanctions, while remaining ready to impose economic measures if necessary.
This was announced by White House press secretary Caroline Levitt.
According to Levitt, one of the key features of the president’s negotiating style is that he does not disclose his potential actions in advance. She believes this approach allows him to maintain flexibility in international relations and avoid sending premature political signals.
“Of course, the president has many tools at his disposal that he can use if necessary. But he has always said that diplomacy and negotiations are his primary means of ending this war,” Levitt emphasized.
She clarified that this is exactly what Trump intends to do tomorrow during a personal meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The meeting was requested by the Russian side, and the White House agreed to participate.
“Of course, there are sanctions and many other measures the president can implement if the situation requires it. Not that he wants to, but he is prepared to act. However, diplomacy and negotiations remain his primary approach,” the press secretary added.
It was previously reported that the approval of a new, 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia due to its war against Ukraine is expected next month.
It is worth adding that Donald Trump will use the topic of sanctions during a conversation with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
Furthermore, it should be noted that US President Donald Trump insisted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy not attend talks with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, which are scheduled to take place in Alaska. The reason is the fear that Zelensky’s presence could disrupt the dialogue with the Kremlin.
Recall that US President Donald Trump is ready to offer Ukraine security guarantees, but outside the North Atlantic Alliance.
