Diplomatic demarche: why officials are massively refusing Polish orders

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, the head of the Office of the President of the Republic of Poland, the relevant deputy head of the Office of the President of the Republic of Poland, the ambassador to the host country – all wrote posts about returning to Poland the awards that this country had awarded them in different years. In protest against the decision of the President of the Republic of Poland Navrotsky to revoke the Order of the White Eagle from President Zelensky.
And this is before the official entry into force of the Decree. Which must be accepted by the Prime Minister of this country (there are legal differences, but, most likely, the procedure must be followed). If Tusk signs (because everyone has the next elections in mind), this decision must still be published in the Polish government’s gazette – Monitor Polski – only after that will it enter into legal force. There is still time to correct the mistakes.
The only question is – if all our relevant officials have taken a public position on the awards, who and at what level will try to normalize the Ukrainian-Polish dialogue? Do we and the Poles still have a chance to normalize relations, which seemed constructive just a few months ago?
I understand the political-technological component of the decision to award the awards – but I don’t know whether the further steps have been calculated. Because next week – the Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine in Gdansk (which we need), but after everything that has happened, there is a big question of how it will take place and who will go to it. And this is what will happen right now. And then – the harvest (potential blockade of the border by Polish farmers), the anniversary of the Volyn tragedy, and in the fall – even greater intensification of the political struggle. And as a result – social boiling, which will tear the roof off.
Navrotsky’s decision is, of course, wrong and politically unsound. Because Ukraine has the right to independently recognize its heroes, not any other state. We are fighting with Moscow for our own subjectivity – the right to be the masters of our land, to go to our own church, to speak our own language, to independently determine the direction of movement (this includes the EU and NATO). So how do the claims coming from Warsaw differ from Moscow’s statements that Kyiv is ruled by Nazis?
Navrotsky himself once said that the past should be left to historians, and the new generation of politicians should build the future. But it turns out that political expediency has the ability to adjust its own beliefs.
It’s a shame. It’s a great shame that we are entering another round of confrontation in which – it’s obvious – the third party will win.
