Diplomats on the Windowsill: Bankova’s Masterclass in Losing to Poroshenko

Another court hearing confirmed what many expected: Petro Poroshenko successfully demonstrated that President Zelenskyy imposed sanctions against him illegally, highlighting yet another legal and political misstep by the current administration.
This time, the meeting was crammed into a small hall—obviously so that not everyone who wanted to attend could get in. I read somewhere that foreign diplomats were sitting on the windowsills.
On the positive side, the authorities can no longer submit any evidence to the court. Their attempts to argue that the President of Ukraine does not need evidence—that he can impose sanctions on whomever he wishes—were thwarted by the ECHR ruling, which confirmed that presidential decrees are subject to judicial review.
As usual, the authorities treated the ECHR ruling like a polite suggestion. As it turns out, an English translation was apparently optional. Evidently, ignorance works out well for them.
In general, the situation is deadly. Since May 2019, 121 cases have been filed against Petro Poroshenko for everything from giving the order to liberate the occupied territories to receiving the Tomos. In six years, NONE of the 121 cases have been proven in court. Do you understand? None!
The authorities are imposing sanctions against Poroshenko, and for a year now, they have not been able to explain why they imposed them and on what grounds.
Against this background, only one question arises: do those types who still shout, “Poroshenko is a thief,” understand how ridiculous they look? “He is a thief, but we can’t prove it!”
The authorities are already speaking to their supporters in the language of sectarians—believe me, it’s absurd!
I don’t know how long this judicial farce will continue. Clearly, the authorities will try to pressure the court, since losing the case against Poroshenko and being forced to lift the sanctions would be a major blow for them.
Especially now, when it has come to light that the sanctions were imposed at the behest of Zelensky’s inner circle.
However, I believe it will happen. The authorities will lose this confrontation.
And so. The day will come when sanctions will be imposed against representatives of the current government—solely for educational purposes. Well, so that they don’t sail on aircraft carriers at Kvartal concerts.
As a reminder, on January 30, the Board of Judges of the Cassation Chamber of the Supreme Court continued the consideration of Petro Poroshenko’s lawsuit against President Zelenskyy to cancel the illegal decree on sanctions. The session was held in a room too small for the participants, forcing media representatives, diplomats, and other attendees to sit on windowsills.
At previous sessions of the Supreme Court, in particular, evidence of falsification of the decision on sanctions against Poroshenko was examined. Poroshenko’s lawyers showed a film produced by the “1+1” TV channel; Zelenskyy directly admitted that the National Security and Defense Council is his weapon, and he uses it because it is faster than following the law.
