Dissident and psychiatrist Semyon Gluzman has died.

Psychiatrist and human rights activist Semyon Gluzman has died at the age of 79.

This was reported by his friend Lesya Kharchenko and people’s deputy Nikolai Knyazhitsky .

According to Kharchenko, Gluzman left the scene on February 16 at 12:00.
“He had a difficult and categorical character and a light and clear conscience. Semyon Gluzman has passed away. […] People of conscience are passing away. Eternal memory…” Knyazhitsky wrote.

Semyon Gluzman rose to prominence in the 1970s for his involvement in the case of dissident and Crimean Tatar rights activist Pyotr Grigorenko . He prepared an independent, in absentia, forensic psychiatric examination that proved the general was mentally sane and that his forced treatment in a psychiatric hospital was illegal.

For his position, Gluzman was convicted the following year and sent to a concentration camp. He served his sentence alongside prominent Ukrainian dissidents Ivan Svitlichny , Yevhen Sverstyuk , and Levko Lukyanenko .
