Donations in support of Ukraine have fallen sharply in Estonia: what happened?

According to representatives of charitable organizations, the decrease in donations is influenced by several factors at once. Among them are society’s fatigue from the long war, the worsening economic situation, and a decline in trust in non-governmental organizations after the scandal surrounding the Slava Ukraini NGO.

Pia Kallas, head of the Rescuers’ Union, noted that it has become more difficult for some Estonians to donate to charity due to their own financial difficulties. At the same time, the protracted war is gradually reducing the feeling that a single contribution can quickly make a difference.

According to her, some people may also be losing faith that their help can bring an end to the war.

At the same time, Ukraine’s need for international support remains high. Kallas stressed that over the past year, the number of Russian missile attacks on civilians has increased significantly, with strikes occurring not only near the front line, but also in the western regions of the country.

Because of this, Ukrainian rescue services are working under significant strain and need additional assistance.

In particular, the head of the State Defense Assistance Fund, Mait Palts, also admitted that the financial capabilities of Estonians to support Ukraine have decreased. At the same time, according to him, the desire to help has not disappeared, and the level of support for Ukraine in Estonia remains quite high compared to many other European countries.
