The Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, stated that the Russian Federation will focus its efforts on the complete occupation of Donbas and the Zaporizhia region in 2026. The Russian Federation also plans to continue offensive actions in other areas.

He said this in an interview with “Social” .

Kirill Budanov reported that the corresponding goals are fixed in the Russian military planning for the next year. According to him, the Russian leadership has identified several key areas on which it will focus its main resources.

He named establishing full control over the Donetsk region as one of Russia’s main tasks in 2026. He also mentioned the intention to advance as far as possible towards the Dnipropetrovsk region.

In addition, Russia plans to continue offensive operations in the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions. There is also talk of expanding the so-called buffer or sanitary zones along the state border of Ukraine.

“These are their main tasks. In principle, the tasks for 2026 are Donbas and Zaporizhia region,” said Kyrylo Budanov.
