Donkey from Shrek to get his own movie: Eddie Murphy reveals details

After the release of the fifth part of “Shrek”, viewers will see a solo project about one of the most beloved characters – Vislyuk, voiced by actor Eddie Murphy.

He spoke about this in an interview with ScreenRant .

According to Eddie Murphy, the script for the new film has already been written, and production will begin in September 2025.

“We’re starting with Donkey in September. It’s going to be its own movie, its own story. They wrote a funny script,” Murphy said.

The solo film about Donkey will tell about the life of the hero with his dragon wife and children, a hybrid of a donkey and a dragon.

Unlike Puss in Boots, which received two solo films and Oscar nominations, the film about Vislyuk will be the first project entirely dedicated to this character.

The Shrek franchise has gained immense popularity due to its unique characters, humor, and parodies of famous fairy tales. Fans are eagerly awaiting new adventures in the fifth installment of the series.

Let us recall that on February 27, Universal Pictures presented the first teaser for the long-awaited cartoon “Shrek 5”. The premiere is scheduled for December 23, 2026.
