“Dovben, disconnected from reality”: a dispute arose between Smilyansky and social media users

A dispute arose between the General Director of Ukrposhta, Ihor Smilyansky, and social media users over the company’s services.

This is stated in a post on the social network X.

“Smilyansky is such a powerful manager that at my Ukrposhta branch they can fire the postman because the subscription plan was not fulfilled,” wrote a user with the nickname “Red Kangaroo” on December 24, 2025.

The company’s CEO responded to this post on September 3, 2025, advising to ask the postman about violations during pension payments when possible.

Later, another user responded to Smilyansky, calling him “detached from reality.”

“Your job is to deliver packages. What a plan, what subscriptions. […] You would be better off transferring pensions (pensioners – ed.) to cards, rather than issuing subscriptions,” he noted.

To this comment, Smilyansky replied: “No – you are completely disconnected from reality. Have you been to the villages? Have you been to the front-line zones? Where can you insert this card in the city that you have instead of a head. Do you know that only 4% of settlements in Ukraine have a bank or an ATM? Do you know how people are supposed to get to the nearest ATM? Do you know how a person with a disability is supposed to do it.”

Smilyansky commented on the entire incident on Telegram on Friday, August 5. He noted that he became a social media star because he “sent a certain rascal.”

According to him, users often self-actualize by insulting famous people and expect polite responses. Smilyansky added that he responds in the same tone in which he is addressed.

“If a person is an asshole, someone should tell them about it. Otherwise, they will go through life without knowing the diagnosis. I will not apologize for anything. I am not only a manager, but also a free person in a free country,” the CEO of Ukrposhta concluded.
