The Ukrainian U-21 national team suffered a disappointing defeat in its opening match of the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, falling to Denmark 2–3. Despite taking the lead twice, Unai Melgosa’s side was unable to hold on to their advantage.
This is reported by Sport.ua.
The first half was controlled by Ukraine, with Voloshyn opening the scoring in the 22nd minute after converting a cross from Ocheretko. Denmark struggled to respond before the break, creating only a few half-chances.
The momentum shifted in the second half following effective substitutions by the Danes, which energized the “Red Guard.”
After Bischoff’s goal in the 62nd minute, the match turned into an end-to-end battle. Bragaru restored Ukraine’s lead, but Beving quickly equalized.
In the 87th minute, Osula scored the winning goal following Jørgensen’s effort, with the referee confirming it after a VAR review.
Ukraine had enough opportunities to avoid defeat, but poorly executed counterattacks and a drop in defensive focus late in the game ultimately cost them the points.
In their next match on June 15, Unai Melgosa’s side will take on Finland — a crucial encounter that could determine their chances of progressing from the group stage.
It was previously reported that on Thursday, June 12, the Ukrainian youth national team will begin its performances at the 2025 European Championship among players under 21. The first opponent of Unai Melgosa’s team will be the Danish national team.
