Drapatiy launched a personnel review of General Staff officers – media

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatiy has begun a personnel review of officers of the General Staff. According to media reports, one of the main criteria will be relevant experience in performing combat missions.
This is reported by “Ukrainska Pravda” with reference to one of the officers of the General Staff.
According to the publication’s interlocutor, on September 28, Drapatiy personally gathered the heads of all structural units of the General Staff and explained what changes he expected.
“If we demand that the troops change, then we must start with ourselves,” the interlocutor of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reports the words of the commander-in-chief.
By October 2, unit leaders must submit information about officers and generals of the General Staff who, since 2022, have not had practical experience performing combat missions as part of groups at the battalion, brigade, corps, or grouping level.
According to the source, combat experience will not be the only criterion for evaluating officers.
“The strategic headquarters during war cannot lose touch with what is actually happening in the troops. The General Staff should be a service for the troops and provide them with solutions that help them fight more effectively,” the publication’s interlocutor noted.
At the same time, this does not mean the automatic dismissal of all officers who do not have relevant combat experience.
Some of them, according to the UP, may be sent to the army. Instead, they plan to select military personnel with recent practical combat experience for their positions in the General Staff.
In addition, by October 2, officers who are already eligible for discharge from service and retirement must decide on their future.
The UP interlocutor also claims that the personnel review has already caused some resistance within the General Staff. According to him, some military personnel are trying to avoid a possible transfer or resolve the personnel issue through the Chief of the General Staff.
Officially, the General Staff or Drapatiy himself have not commented on this information yet.
