Drapatiy plans to appoint Ishkulov as the commander of the defense of Kramatorsk and Slovyansk: what is known about him

The 11th Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which is responsible for the defense of Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, is preparing a change of commander. Brigadier General Oleksiy Maistrenko may be replaced by the former commander of the 80th Brigade, Emil Ishkulov.

Maistrenko headed the 11th Army Corps in April 2026. According to sources, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykhailo Drapatiy, plans to replace him with Emil Ishkulov, who is currently the deputy commander of the 7th Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Ishkulov previously commanded the 80th separate airborne assault brigade in Galicia. During the Kursk operation in 2024, he refused to send the brigade to Russian territory, after which he was dismissed from his post as commander and transferred to the position of deputy commander of the 7th corps of the DShV.
According to the publication’s interlocutor, one of the reasons for the possible personnel decision may be the need to strengthen the defense of the direction due to the growing threats to Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
Personnel changes may also be related to the position of Brigadier General Serhiy Sobko, who was previously the Chief of Staff of the 11th Corps and is now effectively Mykhailo Drapaty’s right-hand man.
