The Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have created an unmanned systems department, which will operate under the brand “Drone Forces”. The new structure is headed by Colonel Andriy Ostapenko.

Ostapenko announced this during the presentation of the Drone Forces in Kyiv.

The new department will be responsible for recruiting military personnel, developing the unmanned component of the Ground Forces, and training subordinate units.

According to Ostapenko, the Drone Forces are not a separate branch or branch of the Armed Forces. They will develop unmanned systems for combined-arms brigades, corps-level unmanned systems units, and ground robotic complexes.

“There is no duplication of functions in any case. We do not compete with the Unmanned Systems Forces. In the Ground Forces, we perform all tasks in the interests of combined arms units,” the colonel explained.

Units of the Drone Force will be involved in defensive and offensive operations, logistical tasks, and troop support.

The slogan of the new structure was: “On the ground. In the air. Everywhere.” According to Ostapenko, it should emphasize the integration of drone units directly into the Ground Forces.
