Drones attacked a refinery near the Kremlin: black smoke rose in Moscow
On the night of Thursday, June 18, drones attacked a number of facilities in Russia. Moscow, Rostov and Belgorod regions were hit. Fires broke out at several facilities after the attacks.
This is reported by Russian officials, monitoring channels, and local publications.
The attack on the Moscow oil refinery in the Kapotny district caused the greatest resonance. Local residents reported drones flying over the Russian capital, and footage of thick black smoke over the territory of the enterprise appeared on the Internet.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin admitted that some of the drones managed to achieve their goal.
“Air defense forces continue to repel the massive attack. Several drones managed to reach the MNPZ. Measures are being taken to eliminate the consequences,” he said.
According to Russian authorities, air defenses allegedly shot down dozens of drones, but fires on the territory of the oil refinery indicate that the facility was successfully destroyed.
In addition to Moscow, explosions and fires were recorded in the Rostov region. In the city of Gukovo, a fire broke out at an oil depot after a drone attack.
According to the governor of the region, Yuriy Slyusary, one person was killed and two others were injured as a result of the strike.
“Two commercial facilities caught fire, and a diesel locomotive was also damaged,” the official said.
Meanwhile, in the Belgorod region, a large-scale fire broke out near the town of Shebekino. Local residents reported the flight of drones shortly before the fire.
According to analysts, the fire engulfed warehouses in an industrial zone near the settlements of Rzhevka and Voznesenka. It is possible that these facilities could have been used to store military property.
There is currently no official confirmation of the extent of damage to the attacked facilities. At the same time, the Russian authorities continue to report on the work of air defense and the elimination of the consequences of the night attack.
As a reminder, on the night of Tuesday, June 16, units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Moscow Oil Refinery in the Moscow Region of Russia . The Ukrainian military also struck control points, warehouses, and facilities of the Russian military-industrial complex.
