Drones attacked an explosives factory in Dzerzhinsk, Russia: consequences and what is its importance

In the Russian city of Dzerzhinsk, in the Nizhny Novgorod region, there was a nighttime drone attack on a factory, more than two dozen explosions were heard, a fire broke out, some of the drones were shot down by air defense, and at least one person was injured.

This is reported by Russian media.

The incident occurred at around 02:30 local time. Residents of Dzerzhinsk began reporting a series of explosions in the city: eyewitnesses gave figures ranging from 25 to more than 30 explosions within about an hour, noted bright flashes in the sky and alarms going off in parked cars.

According to preliminary information, the target of the attack was the Sverdlov plant, one of the largest Russian enterprises producing explosives. It is likely that a fire broke out at the plant.

The governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin, reported that Russian air defenses repelled an attack by about 20 drones near the Dzerzhinsk industrial zone. According to him, falling debris from the attacks caused several local fires in the private sector – these fires were extinguished by rescuers.

Also, according to the governor, one person was injured. The incident damaged the double-glazed windows of residential buildings and the roof of one gas station; according to him, no damage was caused to industrial facilities.

The Sverdlov Plant is one of the leading Russian manufacturers of industrial explosives, transfer charges for the mining industry, perforating charges for oil and gas production, and tools for seismic and geophysical work.

It was previously reported that the company also produces aerial bombs (including KABs), warheads for anti-tank guided missiles, and warheads for anti-aircraft missile systems. The plant is on the sanctions list of the EU, Ukraine, the USA, the UK, Japan, and Switzerland.

By the way, on the night of October 4 , drones attacked an oil refinery in the city of Kirishi , Leningrad Region of the Russian Federation.

The day before, on October 3, long-range drones of the Security Service of Ukraine attacked the Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery in the Orenburg region of the Russian Federation. The enterprise is 1,400 km from the Ukrainian border.

Earlier, on October 2, powerful explosions were heard in the Russian Perm Territory – drones hit a branch of the Azot enterprise of the Uralkhim plant in the city of Berezniki, which is located 1,700 km from the border with Ukraine.

Recall that Ukrainian drones caused record damage to Russia’s oil refining industry, disabling almost 38% of primary oil refining capacities.
