Drones attacked Moscow region: factory in Chekhov caught fire after explosions

On the night of Tuesday, July 28, the Moscow region came under a massive drone attack. Russia reported dozens of drones shot down, temporary restrictions on the operation of the capital’s airports, and a fire at an industrial enterprise in Chekhov.

This was reported by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov, Rosaviatsia, as well as Russian Telegram channels.

According to Sobyanin, initially the air defense forces allegedly shot down 12 drones heading towards Moscow. He later updated the information several times, initially stating 33, then 73, and later 81 drones. Later, the Moscow mayor reported that a total of 390 drones were allegedly shot down over the Moscow region from the evening of July 27 to 06:30 in the morning.

In the wake of the attack, Rosaviatsia temporarily restricted the operation of Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky airports. This caused delays in flights, and some aircraft were diverted to alternate airfields. After six in the morning, the restrictions were gradually lifted.

At the same time, videos of drone flights, explosions, and thick smoke in the Moscow region appeared on social media.

According to OSINT communities and Russian publics, one of the targets could be the Chekhov Regenerator Plant, which processes tires and produces rubber products. There were also reports of a possible strike on Wildberries warehouses in the village of Koledino.

Later, Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov confirmed the fire at the Chekhov Regenerator Plant, saying it was caused by a “falling UAV.” He also reported dozens of drones that he said were shot down over Domodedovo, Podolsk, Ramenskoye, and Kolomna.

There is currently no official confirmation of the Russian authorities’ statements about the number of drones shot down or the extent of possible damage.

As a reminder, on the night of July 20, Moscow and the Moscow region were subjected to a massive drone attack, which resulted in fires at logistics facilities, warehouses, and an oil depot . The Russian authorities announced the attack by more than 400 drones, and also reported casualties.

As reported, on the night of Wednesday, July 22, drones attacked the Russian Krasnodar Krai and Stavropol Krai. After the explosions , large Wildberries logistics centers in Krasnodar and Nevinnomyssk caught fire . There are also reports of a fire at the attacked oil depot in Armavir.
