Drones attacked Moscow region: Volodarskaya LPDS is on fire, refinery could be under attack
On the night of Tuesday, October 6, the Moscow region of Russia was massively attacked by drones. A fire broke out in the region at the Volodarskaya LPDS, one of the key oil products infrastructure facilities in the Moscow region. There were also reports of a possible attack on the Moscow Refinery in Kapotno.
This is reported by Russian and Ukrainian monitoring channels, as well as Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
According to local media, drones entered the Moscow region from several directions at once. Explosions were heard in various areas of the region at night, and eyewitness videos showed the work of Russian air defenses.
The fire broke out near the village of Konstantinovo on the territory of the Volodarskaya LPDS. This is a large oil depot and dispatching center through which the main oil product pipelines of the Moscow region pass. According to monitoring resources, tanks at the facility could have caught fire.
At the same time, reports emerged overnight about possible damage to the Moscow Refinery in Kapotny. It is one of the largest oil refineries in Russia and provides a significant portion of Moscow’s fuel needs. However, information about damage to the plant has not been officially confirmed.
Russian authorities have not reported any strikes on oil refineries. Sobyanin said that between 8:30 p.m. on October 5 and 5:00 a.m. on October 6, 650 drones allegedly flew towards the Moscow region.
“Most of them were destroyed by air defense forces on distant borders. 105 drones were destroyed during their approach to Moscow,” the mayor of the Russian capital said.
During the night, Sobyanin reported several times about the alleged downed drones. Initially, it was about 13 drones, later he announced about 93 destroyed devices, and in the morning he named the total number of drones that were allegedly flying towards the region – 650.
Due to the attack, Rosaviatsia introduced temporary restrictions on the operation of Moscow’s Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, and Zhukovsky airports.
