On the night of October 2, Russian cities Volgograd and Samara were attacked by drones, causing explosions and fires in both cities. In Volgograd, a flare was recorded near the oil refinery and chemical plant “Kaustik”, while in Samara, a fire was reported at an oil facility.

The attack on the Volgograd region was announced by Governor Andrey Bocharov, and explosions and fires in both cities were reported by ASTRA, Exilenova+, and local Russian sources.

In Volgograd, residents reported drone flights and multiple explosions in various areas of the city overnight. Eyewitnesses also reported Russian air defenses and complained about the lack of airstrikes.

ASTRA analyzed video from the scene and determined that the glow from the fire was visible in the direction of the industrial zone where the Volgograd Oil Refinery and the Caustic enterprise are located.

Bocharov confirmed a massive drone attack on the region’s industrial infrastructure. According to him, an apartment building on Udmurtskaya Street in Volgograd caught fire as a result of the attack. One victim was hospitalized.

“At night, as a result of a massive terrorist attack by the criminal Kyiv regime’s UAVs on the industrial infrastructure of the Volgograd region, a fire was recorded in an apartment building on Udmurtskaya Street in the Krasnoarmiysky District of Volgograd. One victim was hospitalized, the fire was localized,” the governor said.

A series of explosions also caused a fire at an oil facility in Samara. OSINT channels reported possible damage to the Samara linear production and dispatching station, an important node in the oil infrastructure. There was no official confirmation of the nature of the damage.

Following the night attack, Russian authorities temporarily restricted operations at Volgograd Airport. Some flights were delayed and one plane was diverted to an alternate airfield in Samara. Restrictions were also imposed at airports in Tatarstan.

As a reminder, on the night of September 28, drones attacked the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation. After the explosions in the village of Novotitarivskaya , a large-scale fire broke out on the territory of the Edelweiss-95 oil depot.

As reported, units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck a number of important military, fuel and energy, and industrial facilities in Russia on the night of September 24-25. In particular, two oil refineries and two radar stations were hit.
