Drones attacked Volgograd: oil refinery caught fire

On the night of August 19, the Volgograd region of Russia was hit by a large-scale drone attack. A series of explosions were heard on the outskirts of the regional center, and local residents reported a fire at an oil refinery and damage to a hospital.

According to Russian Telegram channels, at least 10 powerful explosions were heard by residents of Volgograd around 1 a.m. Eyewitnesses said bright flashes were visible on the horizon, especially in the industrial zone on the outskirts of the city.

The first reports indicated a possible drone attack on the territory of the local refinery, after which photos of a fire at the enterprise appeared on the Internet.

The information about the attack and fire was confirmed by the governor of the Volgograd region, Andrey Bocharov. According to him, in the region “an attack by unidentified drones is being repelled.” The fire that broke out at the oil refinery is currently being contained by rescuers.

“Fire departments are working on the scene. Preliminary – there are no injuries,” the regional administration said in a statement.

In addition to the industrial facility, infrastructure was also likely hit. The roof of hospital No. 16 in Volgograd was reportedly on fire. Windows and facades were damaged in some buildings. Patients in the affected wards were transferred to other parts of the building.

As a reminder, on the night of August 18 , the Unmanned Systems Forces, in cooperation with other components of the Defense Forces, struck the Russian Nikolskoye oil pumping station in the Tambov region.

As reported, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto accused Ukraine of an “attack” on an oil pipeline in Russia, which stopped oil supplies to his country.
