On the night of Thursday, February 12, explosions were heard in Russia at two military facilities at once – in the Tambov and Volgograd regions.
This is reported by Russian media.
In the city of Michurinsk, Tambov region, a fire broke out on the territory of the Progress defense plant after nighttime explosions.
Russian authorities have traditionally not commented on the extent of the damage.
The Michurinsk plant “Progress” is a strategic enterprise of the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation. It produces high-precision instrumentation equipment used in aviation and missile control systems. In particular, it manufactures gyroscopic stabilization devices, autopilots, navigation course indicators, angular velocity sensors and other elements of flight and navigation systems. The products are used in Russian aircraft, helicopters and missile systems.
That same night, drones struck the arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate (GRAU) of the Russian Federation near the village of Kotluban in the Volgograd region.
Local residents reportedly heard powerful explosions, and a large-scale fire with detonation broke out on the territory of the military facility.
Volgograd Region Governor Andrey Bocharov said that Russian air defenses allegedly repelled the missile attack. According to him, due to the threat of further detonation during the fire extinguishing, the evacuation of residents of the village of Kotluban was announced. Units of the Emergencies Ministry and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation were involved in the elimination of the consequences.
The GRAU Arsenal in Kotluban is a military depot for storing and modernizing rocket and artillery weapons and ammunition. It is located more than 600 kilometers from the front line, but is considered an important logistical hub for the Russian army.
Both facilities are related to the provision of the Russian military-industrial complex, and their destruction could affect the capabilities of the Russian army in the war against Ukraine.
Recall, on the night of Wednesday, February 11, a series of powerful explosions thundered in Volgograd, Russia.
As reported, on the night of January 10, drones attacked several regions of Russia. As a result, a fire broke out at an oil depot in the Volgograd region.
