The Belgian Ministry of Defense has confirmed an incident involving drones over the military base in Elsenborn. 15 drones have been spotted, and their origin is currently being investigated.
This is reported by VRT News .
It is noted that at about 1:45 a.m. on Friday, a group of 15 drones was detected over the Elsenborn military base in the province of Liege. The base is located a few kilometers from the German border and covers an area of about 28 square kilometers. It is one of the country’s key army training camps, where shooting exercises are conducted.
Military observer Jens Fransen said the accidental discovery was made possible by testing a drone detection system that was being conducted at the base.
According to him, the system was able to record the flight of the devices, which were probably moving from the territory of Belgium across the border towards Germany. There they were also noticed by the police of the small town of Düren.
The office of Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken confirmed the incident. The Belgian military is currently investigating, trying to find out who was flying the drones and for what purpose they flew over a military facility.
As a reminder, on the evening of October 2 , the appearance of unknown drones was recorded near one of the largest airports in Europe – Munich. Due to the threat of an air incident, the airport temporarily suspended operations.
It should be noted that on the evening of September 25 , Aalborg Airport, located in North Jutland, was temporarily closed due to the recorded presence of unknown drones in its airspace.
Additionally, in the Netherlands, a drone sighting near Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport temporarily closed one of its main runways, posing a serious threat to flight safety.
As reported, on the evening of September 30 , an unidentified unmanned aerial vehicle was spotted flying near the airport in the Norwegian city of Brønneisund.
