Drunk man detained for shooting in Chernihiv city center: all the details of the incident

A shooting incident occurred on a street in Chernihiv, after which the police detained a man. No one was injured as a result of the incident, and a criminal investigation has been opened.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police.

The police received a report of the shots in the afternoon, after which patrol officers and an investigative and operational group immediately arrived at the scene. Law enforcement officers established the circumstances of the incident and the persons involved in the incident.

It was found that two men with signs of alcohol intoxication were walking down the street, and one of them fired several shots into the air from a starting pistol.

Police officers promptly detained a 23-year-old man under Article 298-2 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The weapon was seized, and the motives for his actions are being established.

After the incident, information began to spread in local public forums about shooting at people and the presence of 3 wounded people. In particular, there were reports of a possible threat to children. Law enforcement officers checked this information and stated that it was not true.

“It is preliminary known that a starting pistol was seized from a man on the street. Information about shooting at children is not confirmed. There are no injuries,” the police reported .

It is worth adding that, according to local media, the incident occurred near the “Hradetsky” hotel complex, located in the city center.

A report of suspicion is currently being prepared, and a pre-trial investigation is underway.

As is known, an unknown person opened fire on people in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv . Subsequently, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported that a child was injured as a result of the shooting in the capital, and is currently hospitalized.

Later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that an attacker who opened fire on civilians and took hostages in Kyiv had been eliminated . According to him, 6 people died as a result of the incident, and 9 more were hospitalized with injuries.

As of the morning of April 19, 8 people are in the capital’s hospitals who were injured as a result of the shooting in the Holosiivskyi district on April 18.
