The International Nuclear Energy Agency said that the Chernobyl nuclear power plant lost all external power supply as a result of a Russian night attack on Ukraine.
This was reported by the IAEA press service.
According to the agency’s director general, Rafael Grossi, several substations important for nuclear safety were damaged by Russian strikes.
In addition to the Chernobyl NPP, power lines to other nuclear power plants in Ukraine were also affected.
“The IAEA is actively monitoring developments to assess the impact on nuclear safety,” Grossi stressed.
Previously, the President of Ukraine and the State Security Service of Ukraine stated the threat of Russia preparing strikes on substations related to nuclear power plants.
Recall that in December, Ukrainian nuclear power plants reduced electricity production , and consumers were blacked out in eight regions.
