Russia is preparing to import gasoline by sea for the first time in a long time. The reason is an acute fuel shortage that arose after a series of Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries.
This was reported by Reuters, citing four industry sources.
According to the agency, the first shipment of gasoline from Asia is due to arrive at one of Russia’s western ports this month. This is an unusual situation for a country that has been selling fuel abroad on its own for years.
As Reuters notes, the fuel problems began after numerous attacks by Ukrainian drones on refineries, oil depots and other fuel infrastructure. Among the latest strikes were on the Taneco and Moscow Refineries, where oil processing had to be reduced or suspended.
Gasoline shortages have already been felt in occupied Crimea, two regions of Siberia, and a number of other Russian regions.
To prevent further fuel shortages, Russian authorities have banned gasoline exports until the end of July. Moscow also plans to purchase fuel from Belarus and will try to negotiate small supplies from Kazakhstan.
However, Reuters sources say that even imports are unlikely to completely solve the problem. Due to logistics and high prices, they will not be able to quickly cover the needs of the Russian market.
We will remind, after the drone attack on the Moscow oil refinery of Gazprom Neft, the enterprise completely stopped its work.
As a reminder, on the night of Tuesday, June 16, drones attacked fuel infrastructure facilities in Russia. In particular, there are reports of a fire at the Moscow Oil Refinery and a fire at an oil depot in the Krasnodar Territory.
