During negotiations with the police: a murder suspect shot himself in Vinnytsia region

A man suspected of murdering pensioners in Cherkasy region committed suicide in Vinnytsia region during negotiations with law enforcement officers.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police.

The man wanted on suspicion of the double murder of pensioners in Cherkasy region was hiding in the Vinnytsia region.

Law enforcement officers located him and sent a team to detain him. However, he shot himself during negotiations with the police.

“In the morning, the attacker himself called 102 and reported that he was near a store in one of the settlements of the Khmilnytsia district of the Vinnytsia region and was waiting for a police crew, noting that he had grenades and automatic weapons with him,” the police said.

During a police operation involving the KORD special forces unit and negotiations, a 63-year-old man refused to lay down his weapons and committed suicide.

“On July 26, the suspect and an accomplice broke into the home of pensioners in Cherkasy region, who were tortured to death, presumably for money. The man was left to die in the house, and the woman, who saw the face of the perpetrator, was taken to a field in the Kirovohrad region. She died from head injuries and strangulation,” law enforcement officials noted.

The operatives detained one of the attackers. The attacker is currently in pre-trial detention. The other committed suicide. After the suicide, the police found an automatic weapon, loaded magazines, and grenades next to the body. The investigation is ongoing.

Earlier in the Kyiv region, a man detonated a live grenade just as police were about to intervene. The explosion injured five law enforcement officers, and the attacker himself was killed on the spot . An arsenal of weapons was found in his house.
