In a recent exchange of fallen soldiers, Russia transferred the bodies of 20 of its servicemen to Ukraine — a move that sheds light on Moscow’s broader strategy, according to President Zelenskyy.

This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to President Zelenskyy, the Russian side claimed that the transferred bodies were solely those of Ukrainian defenders — a statement that turned out to be false.

He noted that, in some cases, Russian passports were found on the bodies.

“They can’t even verify whom they’re sending,” Zelenskyy emphasized. “Of course, we want to bring home all our soldiers and the bodies of our heroes. But we won’t accept Russian soldiers just to make up the numbers.”
He noted that this is the Kremlin’s attempt to downplay the true number of Russian military casualties, Ukrinform reports.

“If you present it as though there are a hundred dead Ukrainians for every Russian soldier, it doesn’t seem as frightening. The goal is to distort the reality we’re living in — a reality where far more Russian troops are dying,” Zelenskyy explained.

Earlier, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said that during the last repatriation of the fallen soldiers, Russia transferred the bodies of its soldiers to Ukraine mixed with the bodies of Ukrainian defenders.

As a reminder, on June 16, another 1,245 bodies of the dead were returned to Ukraine. The repatriation part of the Istanbul agreements with Russia has been completed.
