Easter 2026: when will Ukrainians celebrate the holiday

In 2026 , Orthodox believers in Ukraine will celebrate Easter on Sunday, April 12. This is one of the main Christian holidays, which has a different date every year .

The date of Easter is determined by the church Paschalia. Traditionally , the holiday falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon that occurs after the day of the vernal equinox, which conventionally falls on March 21 .

It is according to this rule that the day of the Bright Resurrection of Christ is calculated in the Orthodox tradition.

The Orthodox Church of Ukraine has switched to the new Julian calendar since 2023. It is considered more accurate than the Julian calendar and closer to astronomical events.

At the same time, the date of Easter remains common to Orthodox churches, regardless of whether they use the New Julian or Julian calendar.

Traditionally, the celebration of Easter lasts more than one day. According to church tradition , it lasts 40 days – this is how long, according to Christian teachings, Jesus Christ spent with his disciples after the Resurrection.
