There is growing concern in a number of Eastern European countries that the administration of US President Donald Trump may offer Russia large-scale economic concessions in exchange for ending the war against Ukraine.

This is stated in the material of the publication “Politico”.

According to journalists, the concern is that Trump could dismantle the current system of energy and financial sanctions against Russia. In such a scenario, the growth of the American liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry, which is currently actively replacing Russian supplies to Europe, would be at risk.

“The only thing that could slow down the development of the US LNG industry is the return of Russian gas to the European market,” said Jeffrey Pyatt, former US ambassador to Ukraine and former head of the State Department’s Bureau of Energy.

Although gas supplies from Russia to Europe through pipelines have not yet been restored, some sanctions restrictions are already being eased. And some European politicians do not rule out the possibility of buying energy resources from Russia again.

“We are concerned about the prospect that the US could change course, and this would open the door for Russian gas to return to the market. We hope that we can convince Washington not to make this mistake,” said a representative of one of the Eastern European states on condition of anonymity.

According to Politico, even some American investors have already begun discussing potential cooperation with the Russian side on the partial restoration of supplies to Germany.

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump said that he is no longer interested in meeting with Russian dictator Putin.

As reported, US President Donald Trump said that Russia has 10 days to reach an agreement on the war in Ukraine. If it refuses, Washington will impose new economic restrictions, including tariffs. At the same time, Trump acknowledged that the war will last longer than expected.

By the way, according to sources, the current US president is offering Putin peace on terms that could be beneficial to Russia, but the Kremlin is refusing . Trump, who until recently avoided open confrontation with Moscow and even considered recognizing the annexation of Crimea, is now openly putting pressure on Putin. The turning point was his agreement to support the transfer of weapons to Ukraine through European partners — a decision that analysts call “belated but critically important.”
