Eight hours a day: the occupation authorities of Crimea have restricted mobile communications and the Internet for the population

In temporarily occupied Crimea, the Russian authorities are tightening restrictions on mobile communications and the Internet, as well as installing landline phones for emergency services. According to the Center for Countering Disinformation, such measures are related to Russia’s military needs and increased control over the information space.

According to the Central Public Health Service, mobile communication and Internet access in Dzhankoy will only work 8 hours a day. The rest of the time, there will be no access to the network.
The Center for Countering Disinformation notes that the restrictions are intended to make it more difficult to disseminate information about the movement of Russian military equipment and personnel. In addition, they are aimed at strengthening control over the information space and limiting the access of residents of the peninsula to information undesirable for the Kremlin.
“The civilian population is becoming a hostage to the military interests of the Kremlin, which is turning Crimea into a closed militarized zone,” the Center for Countering Disinformation noted.
At the same time, according to local media, free landline phones for contacting emergency services have begun to be installed in occupied Crimea. The first such phone was installed on Teatralnaya Square in Yevpatoria.
“The availability of a landline phone is especially important during disruptions in mobile communications,” the occupation administration of Yevpatoria said.
Similar phones are already being installed in Dzhankoy, where they have appeared at five addresses.
Amidst communication restrictions , large-scale power outages have been ongoing in occupied Crimea for several weeks. After attacks on energy infrastructure, the occupation authorities have stopped reporting which settlements remain without power.
In particular, in Sevastopol, they have tightened the schedules of power outages and stated that they can no longer predict the time of restoration of power supply. Due to power outages, residents are urged to receive information via radio news and charge mobile devices at specially equipped points.
Russian protégé in Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, said that it is currently impossible to form accurate electricity supply schedules on the peninsula. Tram traffic has also been limited due to power outages. The occupation authorities additionally report on the availability of fuel for private vehicles.
By the way, on the night of July 19 , units of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck 13 power substations in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and four ships of the Russian shadow fleet in the Black Sea.
Recall that Ukraine has entered a new phase of its campaign to isolate temporarily occupied Crimea , focusing attacks on Russian ships that deliver fuel by sea. The Institute for the Study of War believes that such tactics should complicate the logistical support of Russian troops on the peninsula.
It was previously reported that in temporarily occupied Crimea, as a result of an attack by Ukrainian drones on July 10, the Moynaki electrical substation in Yevpatoria caught fire .
