Elections during martial law: the Rada forms a working group to study the issue
The Verkhovna Rada has begun the process of forming a working group to quickly study the issue of holding potential presidential elections in Ukraine during martial law.
This was announced by the head of the Servant of the People faction, David Arakhamia.
As he said, the issue of elections will be discussed jointly with the relevant Verkhovna Rada Committee on the Organization of State Power, representatives of local self-government, regional development, and urban planning.
In addition, representatives of all parliamentary factions and groups, the CEC, and public organizations dealing with election issues will be involved in the process.
Arakhamia did not disclose details about the date and time of the meeting, promising to provide information later. However, he noted that media representatives will be invited.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky instructed MPs to develop a bill on the possibility of holding elections during martial law . The initiative does not involve preparations for the elections, but was a reaction to statements by United States President Donald Trump.
As is known, there are currently no bills or drafts in Ukraine that would regulate the holding of elections in wartime. However, the Verkhovna Rada is ready to prepare all necessary documents to ensure a democratic process even during hostilities.
By the way, Petro Poroshenko, in an interview with journalist Vitaly Portnikov, stated that elections during martial law are impossible . He also noted that there can be no voting according to Putin’s scenario in Ukraine.
