President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a discussion at the Munich Security Conference, announced Ukraine’s readiness to organize an electoral process in the event of a two-month ceasefire. In his opinion, Donald Trump can facilitate this by putting pressure on the Russian dictator.

Andriy Magera, an expert at the Center for Political and Legal Reforms, expressed doubts about the appropriateness of such rhetoric on the air of “Pryamoy”.

“Frankly, I was hurt by the words of the President of Ukraine, who said that if the United States and Russia want elections to be held in Ukraine, we will hold them,” Magera emphasized.

The analyst is convinced that electoral procedures should be based exclusively on domestic legislative norms and democratic rules enshrined in the Constitution.

He warned that such statements could be used by foreign propaganda to promote theses about the limited sovereignty of our state. Magera reminded that the vote will inevitably take place immediately after the lifting of martial law, regardless of the wishes of external players.

Earlier, Western media reported on the US demand to hold elections in Ukraine by May 15. Moreover, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky allegedly plans to announce presidential elections and a referendum on the peace agreement on February 24. However, sources on Bankova denied this information.

At the same time, reports by foreign media about US demands to hold elections by May 15 may turn out to be an information injection and a tool to test the mood of Ukrainians . People’s Deputy from “European Solidarity” Maria Ionova noted on the air of “Pryamoy” that the real situation in the legislative body looks much more restrained than it is presented in the headlines of foreign publications.

However, the emergence of information about the elections in Ukraine raises many questions . According to political scientist Oleksandr Krayev, the date of May 15, which falls on a Friday, raises doubts due to its inconsistency with Ukrainian legislation and military realities, but it may be part of a broader foreign policy game of the American side.
