Employee of closed NABU unit detained for spying for FSB
The SBU and the Office of the Prosecutor General detained an employee of the closed NABU unit “D-2” suspected of working for the FSB of Russia.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General ( OPG ) and the Security Service of Ukraine ( SBU ).
According to the investigation, his curator was Dmitry Ivantsov, the former deputy head of ex-President Yanukovych’s security, who remained in Crimea after Yanukovych’s escape and was recruited by Russian special services.
Law enforcement officers established that the NABU employee had passed restricted information to Ivantsov at least 60 times, and also collected data on Ukrainian security forces and citizens in closed databases for the FSB, which could be used for terrorist attacks and information operations.
For his activities, the suspect received money on a bank card, and during his arrest he tried to destroy evidence.
He was informed of suspicion of treason and unauthorized actions with information. The suspect faces up to 15 years in prison.
Let us recall that the Security Service of Ukraine came to the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) this morning without official warning to check compliance with the legislation on state secrets.
Earlier, the SBU conducted searches at the homes of NABU detectives .
