President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has published an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin. In it, he called on the Russian leader to end the war and offered to hold a personal meeting.
In the letter, Zelensky stated that the war against Ukraine was Putin’s personal choice and that over the years of full-scale invasion, it had not brought Russia the results the Kremlin had hoped for.
The President of Ukraine mentioned the losses of the Russian army, sanctions, economic problems, and growing discontent with the war within Russia itself.
“Enough of the war. Ukraine proposes to end this war,” Zelensky wrote.
He suggested that Putin set a date for a personal meeting and hold it at a neutral venue. Among the possible options, Zelensky mentioned Switzerland, Turkey, or the countries of the Arab world.
The president also stated that Ukraine is ready for a complete ceasefire for the duration of the negotiations and supports the exchange of prisoners on the principle of “all for all.”
Separately, Zelenskyy stressed the need to return Ukrainian civilians and children who were taken away during the war, as well as the need to create effective security guarantees.
At the end of the letter, the President of Ukraine stated that if Russia does not agree to end the war, Ukraine will continue the fight for its independence.
“The choice is now yours,” Zelenskyy said to Putin.
