EPP Leaders’ Summit adopts statement with Poroshenko’s proposals on supporting Ukraine
The Extended Summit of Leaders of the European People’s Party adopted a statement in which it supported the proposals of the leader of “European Solidarity” Petro Poroshenko to strengthen support for Ukraine.

The summit took place on the eve of the European Council meeting on March 19 and was dedicated to coordinating the positions of EU member states.
In a statement, EPP leaders emphasized Ukraine’s key role for European security.
“We recognize the defense of Ukraine as vital to the freedom and security of Europe, and we reaffirm our unwavering support for Kyiv,” the document says.
Summit participants also emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s internal stability, including preserving political unity, the rule of law, media freedom, and the independence of anti-corruption bodies.
In addition, the statement confirms support for Ukraine’s European integration course.
In his speech, Petro Poroshenko called on EU leaders not to reduce attention to Ukraine amid events in the Middle East.
“The key to solving urgent security problems lies in solving the Russian problem,” he stressed.
Poroshenko also emphasized the need to strengthen Ukrainian resilience by strengthening the Armed Forces of Ukraine and allocating an EU loan of 90 billion euros for military and budgetary needs.
Separately, he called for strengthening sanctions against Russia, including the adoption of the 20th sanctions package and coordination of restrictions at the transatlantic level.
The summit was attended by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Parliament President Roberta Metzola, heads of state and government of 11 EU countries, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Croatian Prime Minister Andriy Plenković, as well as EPP President Manfred Weber and opposition leaders from a number of European countries.
