Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin, during which he stressed the importance of strengthening diplomatic efforts to establish a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
This is stated in a statement by the Communications Directorate of the Turkish Presidential Administration.
According to official information, the conversation took place on October 7. Erdogan emphasized that the process of diplomatic settlement of the war between Ukraine and Russia should be intensified, and Turkey will continue to support steps aimed at ending hostilities.
The leaders also discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip. Erdogan informed Putin about Ankara’s initiatives to achieve a ceasefire and ensure access to humanitarian aid for the civilian population.
During the conversation, special attention was paid to the development of bilateral relations, in particular, trade and energy cooperation.
The conversation was also personal — the Turkish president wished the Russian leader a happy birthday. According to observers, Ankara continues to maintain the position of a mediator between Moscow and the West, trying to strengthen its own diplomatic leverage through contacts with both sides.
Recall, in September, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said thata meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia was not yet possible, as the parties were “not yet ready” for dialogue at the highest level.
As reported, the Kremlin has officially spoken about the impasse in negotiations with Ukraine. The Russian dictator’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, admitted that the negotiation process between Kyiv and Moscow is at a standstill.
