Ambassadors of the European Union countries have agreed to open the sixth negotiation cluster within the framework of Ukraine’s EU accession process. The final decision is to be officially approved on July 14 during the Intergovernmental Conference between Ukraine and the European Union.

The preparatory body of the Council of the European Union has agreed to open a sixth negotiating cluster for Ukraine within the framework of the EU accession process. According to Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Taras Kachka, the next step will be the official approval of this decision at the Intergovernmental Conference, which is scheduled for July 14.
“Cluster 6 is particularly important in today’s global security environment. Common security and defense policy, trade, humanitarian aid and development cooperation, Ukraine’s rapprochement with the EU’s common foreign and security policy. Now we look forward to the official decision on July 14,” said Taras Kachka.
The sixth negotiation cluster covers the following issues:
- common security and defence policy;
- trade cooperation;
- humanitarian aid;
- development cooperation;
- approximation of Ukraine’s foreign and security policy to that of the European Union.
Support for further enlargement of the European Union was also expressed by Irish Minister for European Affairs Thomas Byrne. According to him, Ireland, which holds the presidency of the Council of the EU until the end of 2026, is counting on positive progress in negotiations with candidate countries.
“On Tuesday, I look forward with great hope to seeing positive progress in the accession process of Ukraine, Moldova, Albania and Montenegro,” said Thomas Byrne.
After the official approval of the decision, Ukraine will be able to move on to fulfilling the requirements in the areas covered by the sixth negotiation cluster, which is a necessary condition for further progress on the path to membership in the European Union.
It was previously reported that Poland will not support Ukraine’s accession to the European Union unless Kyiv reconsiders its approach to honoring OUN and UPA figures, in particular Stepan Bandera.
The day before, Hungary suspended consideration of applications from Ukraine and Moldova to join the European Union. Budapest postponed a decision on opening all official negotiation clusters for Ukraine and Moldova.
We will remind you that the EU countries did not support the opening of all negotiation clusters for Ukraine’s faster European integration . The European leaders limited themselves to formulating further steps for Kyiv.
