EU and member states summon Russian diplomats over Leipzig airport attack

The European Union and individual member states have summoned Russian diplomats over an attempted drone attack on Leipzig/Halle airport in Germany, with Berlin saying Russia was behind the incident.

EU foreign policy chief Kaia Kallas said the EU’s diplomatic service had summoned the Russian ambassador to Brussels over the incident, calling the attack “an act of state-sponsored terrorism.”
France also summoned Russia’s chargé d’affaires in Paris. Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said it was necessary to protest to Russia and called on the EU to consider new sanctions, including against its “shadow fleet.”
In the Netherlands, Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen also summoned the Russian ambassador and called the events in Leipzig unacceptable.
The Russian ambassador was also summoned to Belgium. The country’s Foreign Minister Maxim Prevost said that the incident is another in a series of unacceptable cases of infiltration into the territory of EU and NATO countries.
“This is an extremely serious hostile act. Russia cannot believe that it can conduct such operations in our countries without consequences,” Prevost wrote on the social network X.
Earlier it was reported that Germany announced tough measures in response to the Russian attack at Leipzig airport. Berlin plans to close the Russian Consulate General in Bonn and terminate the agreement on the “Russian House” in Berlin.
German authorities have also officially accused Russia of attempting sabotage at Leipzig/Halle airport. In early August, a drone with explosives was found near a Ukrainian cargo plane there.
