EU countries refused to join Trump’s Peace Council

Most European Union countries have rejected US President Donald Trump’s invitation to join the Peace Council.

The Financial Times reports this.

According to the publication, Europe fears that the new structure could supplant the United Nations as the key international forum for resolving global conflicts. The EU was further concerned by the invitation of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to the Peace Council.

As FT sources note, the participation of the head of the aggressor state calls into question both the initiative’s legitimacy and its potential effectiveness.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump confirmed that he had invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to join the so-called “Peace Council,” which is tasked with overseeing the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump invited the leaders of 49 countries to join the Gaza Peace Council he created. Ukraine is among those invited.
