The Council of the European Union has extended all existing sanctions against Belarus for another year – until February 28, 2027.
This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.
The restrictions were introduced due to internal repression by the regime of Alexander Lukashenko, Russia’s support for the war against Ukraine, and hybrid attacks against EU states.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budris stated that Belarus continues to persecute civil society, holds political prisoners, and uses the country’s territory for military purposes, including for treating Russian military personnel and bypassing Ukrainian air defenses.
The sanctions currently apply to 312 Belarusian citizens and 57 organizations. The EU has frozen their assets, banned financial transactions and banned entry into the Union for individuals on the sanctions list.
As previously reported, the European Union extended sanctions against the Russian Federation for another year – until February 24, 2027.
As a reminder, the Foreign Ministers of the European Union countries did not reach an agreement on the 20th package of sanctions against Russia.
