The European Union has decided to extend individual sanctions against Russia for another year – until October 9, 2026. The lists include traitor Viktor Medvedchuk.
This is stated in the statement of the Council of the EU.
The document notes that sanctions continue due to Russia’s hybrid activities, including manipulation of foreign information against the EU, its member states and partners.
The restrictions cover 47 individuals and 15 legal entities . Their assets are frozen and European companies are prohibited from providing them with funds or resources. Individuals are banned from entering and transiting through the EU.
The list also includes traitor to Ukraine Viktor Medvedchuk. As stated in the decision, he is a key leader of pro-Russian propaganda and has personal ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Through his associates, in particular Artem Marchevsky, Medvedchuk controlled Ukrainian media and used them to spread Russian narratives, and after the war began – to undermine Ukrainian sovereignty. In 2023, he created the political movement “Other Ukraine” in Russia.
In addition, Medvedchuk led influence operations aimed at supporting Russia’s foreign policy interests and interfering in Europe’s internal affairs, including the European Parliament elections. His activities included financing politicians in the EU, coordination with Russian authorities, pressure on journalists, and media campaigns in the European market.
Recall that the EU is preparing to significantly increase pressure on Russia by introducing a new package of sanctions that will cover three areas at once – energy, financial services, and trade.
