EU imposes new sanctions against North Korea over cooperation with Russia
The European Union has imposed new sanctions on North Korea over its nuclear program and cooperation with Russia. Three more people and four organizations have been placed under restrictions.
This is reported by the Council of the EU.
The European Union said that North Korea continues to work on nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles. At the same time, the country is increasingly cooperating with Russia, particularly in the military sphere.
This includes sending North Korean soldiers to Russia, recruiting workers from the DPRK to work in Russia, and creating joint ventures. In addition, Moscow and Pyongyang trade weapons in exchange for oil.
The EU emphasized that such actions pose a threat to international security.
After the introduction of new restrictions, 80 people and 25 organizations linked to North Korea are on the European Union’s sanctions list.
The EU also called on Pyongyang to stop developing nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles and completely abandon its weapons of mass destruction programs. This process should take place under international control.
The new sanctions have already entered into force. The European Union also continues to adhere to restrictions previously imposed by the UN Security Council.
In particular, they prohibit the creation of joint ventures with North Korea, limit oil supplies to the country, and demand the return of North Korean workers from abroad.
By the way, on October 8, the United Kingdom announced a new package of large-scale sanctions against Russia , aimed at weakening its oil revenues, military-industrial complex, and schemes to circumvent restrictions.
