European Foreign Minister Kaia Kallas has called on the EU to tighten sanctions against Russia this fall. The EU is also preparing additional assistance for Ukrainian air defense.

This was reported by Kaia Kallas.

She said that she participated in a meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing”, where they discussed strengthening Ukrainian air defense, assistance to Ukraine in the winter, and further pressure on Russia.

According to Kallas, within the framework of the loan support program for Ukraine for 2026-2027, the European Union has already allocated 8.47 billion euros for defense needs. In addition, the EU is preparing additional payments to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.

Kallas also proposed adopting tougher sanctions against Russia this fall.

Separately, the European Union plans to increase pressure on the Russian “shadow fleet”, with the help of which Moscow circumvents restrictions and continues to receive money to finance the war.

“We are tightening the net even more around Russia’s shadow fleet to deprive Moscow of the funds to wage war,” Kallas said.

She emphasized that further strengthening of Ukraine should increase pressure on Moscow and push it to negotiate.

“The stronger we make Ukraine, the faster we will force Russia to sit at the negotiating table,” Kallas concluded.

Earlier it was reported that Italy is preparing a new aid package for Ukraine and will continue to maintain sanctions pressure on Russia. Rome also remains committed to supporting Ukraine’s security, defense and reconstruction.

Recall that the United Kingdom is developing new long-range missiles for Ukraine , which will not contain American components and could enter service within a year. According to sources, the new systems will be cheaper than Storm Shadow missiles and will have a range of over 500 kilometers.
