EU plans to extend sanctions against Russia for three years and expel Usmanov and Fridman

The European Union may extend sanctions against Russia for three years at once – until September 2029. At the same time, they plan to remove two Russian billionaires – Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman – from the list.

This is reported by “European Truth” with reference to two EU diplomats.

EU ambassadors discussed the sanctions on September 22 and tentatively agreed to extend them. If the decision is finally approved, the restrictions will remain in place for another 36 months.

At the same time, Usmanov and Fridman are planned to be removed from the sanctions list. According to one of the sources, this was part of a compromise that was discussed by the EU countries.

A second diplomat also confirmed that the ambassadors agreed to expel two Russian billionaires.

Now the EU countries must finalize the decision. To do this, a written procedure will be launched in the near future.

As a reminder, ambassadors from all 27 EU countries have agreed to lift sanctions on Russian businessmen Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman . However, there is no final decision yet – it can still be blocked by any EU country.
