EU will again try to open negotiation clusters for Ukraine: Hungary opposes

On Tuesday, September 29, the Council of the European Union’s Enlargement Working Party (COELA) will re-examine the screening results of two negotiating clusters for Ukraine. Their approval is necessary for further progress in the EU accession negotiations.
This is reported by “European Truth” with reference to its own sources in the Council of the EU.
The COELA meeting will start at 10:00 Brussels time (11:00 Kyiv time). The Ukrainian issue is the first item on the agenda.
Member State representatives should agree on the screening results of Cluster 2 “Internal Market” and Cluster 3 “Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth” .
Previously, they failed to be approved due to Hungary’s position. Now the EU Council will once again try to convince Budapest to agree to Ukraine’s further progress along these lines of negotiations.
After considering the Ukrainian issue, the working group will move on to a similar issue regarding Moldova.
It was previously reported that the European Union has begun the official procedure for opening the first negotiation cluster for Ukraine on its path to EU membership. This is Cluster No. 1 “Fundamentals”, which covers the issues of the rule of law, democratic institutions, and public administration.
In addition, Hungary has suspended consideration of Ukraine’s and Moldova’s applications to join the European Union. Budapest has postponed a decision on opening all official negotiation clusters for Ukraine and Moldova.
