The European Commission has proposed four defense projects according to which the EU plans to counter Russian air aggression.
This is stated in the Politico article.
The nine-page document was distributed to EU member states ahead of an informal meeting of the bloc’s leaders in Copenhagen.
In addition to the “Drone Wall,” there are three other proposals to block Russian air attacks. These include the “Eastern Flank Surveillance” to detect threats ranging from hybrid operations to drone incursions; the “Air Defense Shield” to enhance air and missile defense capabilities; and the “Defensive Space Shields” to enhance the bloc’s competitiveness in space to monitor threats.
The European Commission insists that the creation of a drone wall and surveillance of the eastern flank “require particular urgency and must be implemented immediately.”
In order to receive funding for projects, they must be unanimously approved. The publication emphasizes that in this case, countries located far from Russia will have to be persuaded to spend money on defense.
The projects will likely be partially financed by the European Defence Industrial Programme worth €1.5 billion, but negotiations are still ongoing.
As is known, during the meeting of European leaders in Denmark , the central topic will be the creation of a “drone wall” and strengthening the defense of Europe’s eastern flank .
