Europe puts pressure on Iran: talks on Tehran’s nuclear program are taking place in Istanbul
Representatives of European countries are holding talks with Iranian diplomats in Istanbul regarding Tehran’s nuclear program.
This was reported by France 24.
The negotiations began at 09:30 Kyiv time and will last until around 15:30.
It is noted that this is the first meeting to take place since Israel’s attack on Iran in June, which provoked a 12-day war between the countries.
It is known that European countries are threatening Tehran to restore UN sanctions by the end of August.
European countries are demanding that Iran make commitments on key issues, including negotiations with the US, full cooperation with the IAEA and the UN, and reporting on 400 kilograms of highly enriched uranium, the whereabouts of which have been unknown since the Israeli strikes in June.
“The source said the Europeans were preparing to trigger the mechanism “in the absence of an agreed solution” and called on Iran to make “clear gestures” on uranium enrichment and resuming cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog,” France 24 writes.
Before the talks, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaie said: “The meeting will be a test of realism for the Europeans and a valuable opportunity to correct their views on the Iranian nuclear issue.”
It is worth noting that Iran has officially announced the suspension of the country’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA – ed.) .
As reported, US strikes on three major uranium enrichment sites in Iran failed to destroy key elements of Iran’s nuclear program . However, the strikes did delay the program’s development by about several months.
Previously, the United States Air Force attacked Iran’s nuclear infrastructure , including the most protected facility in Fordow.
