Ukraine’s European allies, together with Kyiv, are discussing how to force Russia to return to real negotiations to end the war.

This is reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.

According to the publication, representatives of Germany, France, and the United Kingdom have joined the discussion. They have held a series of consultations with the Ukrainian side in recent weeks.

The agency’s interlocutors claim that European capitals see an opportunity to intensify the negotiation process, in particular, because US attempts to advance the negotiations have effectively reached a dead end.

In addition, sources indicate increasing losses of the Russian army and successful Ukrainian strikes on targets deep inside Russia.

Europe also fears that without diplomatic progress, Ukraine could face another difficult winter with new attacks on energy and civilian infrastructure.

At the same time, Bloomberg’s interlocutors emphasize that the allies are not going to pressure Kyiv or persuade it to make concessions to Moscow. The decision on possible negotiations and their terms, as before, remains with Ukraine.

In the coming days, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz plan to discuss further steps regarding this initiative.

As previously reported, Finnish President Alexander Stubb on Sunday, May 25, announced his readiness to become a representative of the Europeans in potential peace talks with Russia.

Also, the US President’s special representative, Steve Witkoff, stated that new progress may appear in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia in the near future.
