Europe under pressure from the US, China and Russia: Kallas outlined the main challenge for the European Union

The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas, stated that the United States, China and Russia have a difficult attitude towards the European Union due to its role as a single geopolitical player.

During her speech, Kallas noted that the world’s major powers often try to build relationships with individual countries rather than with the European Union as a single bloc. She emphasized that such tactics allow external players to weaken the EU’s common position.

According to her, an approach is often used in international politics where support for individual states is demonstrated while simultaneously rejecting the European Union itself as a structure.

“External players often use an approach where they demonstrate their commitment to a particular state while at the same time expressing their rejection of the European Union itself,” said Kaia Kallas.

Kallas also warned against actions that could undermine the unity of the EU, emphasizing that the fragmented decisions of individual countries weaken the bloc’s common position on the international stage.

“Any attempts to divide European countries play exclusively into the hands of external forces,” said Kaia Kallas.

She emphasized that the key condition for maintaining the EU’s influence is solidarity and consistency of decisions between member states.

Recall that the administration of US President Donald Trump announced the withdrawal of 5,000 American troops from Germany amid escalating disputes between the US and its European allies. Poland and Germany have already stated the risks to NATO and the need to strengthen European defense.

By the way, former US special envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg stated the possible need to create alternative military alliances to replace NATO . He also suggested the possibility of the US invoking Article 13 of the Alliance to prepare for withdrawal.
