Europe will stop purchasing Russian energy by 2027 – US

European states have promised Washington to finally abandon imports of Russian energy resources by the beginning of 2027.

This was stated by US Energy Secretary Christopher Wright in an interview with CNBC.

According to Wright, until the end of 2026, EU countries will still be able to purchase Russian energy resources, both under existing long-term contracts and on the spot market. However, from January 1, 2027, such supplies will be completely stopped.

America is preparing to replace Russia in Europe’s energy market

Christopher Wright also reported that the United States is already preparing to increase its own energy supplies to European countries. The government sees this as an opportunity to replace Russian oil and gas exports with American resources.

“We are working to become a reliable long-term energy partner for Europe, completely replacing Russian oil and gas,” the minister noted.

For example, the US is calling on the European Union to impose tough 100 percent tariffs on trade with China and India to increase economic pressure on Russia and force it to make peace. In response, America is ready to take similar measures and join a joint sanctions campaign.

As reported, US President Donald Trump sees “no reason” for economic isolation of Russia, except for the continuation of the war against Ukraine.
