EU Commissioner Pushes to Fast-Track Ukraine’s Membership Talks

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Cos called on EU countries to officially open all negotiation clusters on Ukraine’s and Moldova’s accession to the EU by the summer.
She wrote about this on the social network X.
According to Kos, she made the relevant statement in Brussels before the start of the EU Council meeting on foreign affairs.
She noted that the first negotiation cluster could be opened during the Cyprus presidency and the remaining five in July.
“The first cluster can be opened during the Cyprus presidency, and for the remaining five clusters, we hope to be able to do this in July,” the European Commissioner emphasized.
Kos also reported that a high-level meeting of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, who were illegally taken from the occupied territories by Russia, is being held in Brussels.
The meeting was organized jointly with Canada and Ukraine. It is attended by representatives of almost 60 countries.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the return of Ukrainian children, support for them after returning home, and mechanisms for holding Russia accountable.
Kos emphasized that the abduction of children is one of the most terrible manifestations of war, and Russia must bear responsibility for it.
As previously reported, Ukraine and NATO discussed the main areas of cooperation within the framework of the activities of the Joint Training and Education Analysis Center (JATEC).
As a reminder, the European Union is exploring the possibility of establishing a direct channel of negotiations with the Kremlin to avoid being left out of the peace process regarding the war in Ukraine.
